A custom cake is often the centrepiece of the whole event, so it's worth planning it with the same care as the rest of your celebration. Whether you're organizing a birthday, a wedding, an anniversary, or a cultural celebration, here's how the process works when you order with us, and how to get a cake that looks and tastes exactly the way you imagined it.
How far ahead should you book?
The single biggest factor in getting the cake you want is booking early. Custom designs take real time to plan, sketch, and prepare, and weekends around holidays and wedding season fill up fastest. As a general rule, reach out as soon as you have a date and a rough idea, even if the details aren't finalized yet. If your event is large or the design is elaborate, more lead time gives us more room to get every detail right.
What to bring to your consultation
You don't need a finished vision before you talk to us, but a few things make the conversation much easier:
- The event date, guest count, and the occasion itself (birthday, wedding, engagement, retirement, religious celebration, etc.)
- Any reference photos or Pinterest-style inspiration, even rough ones
- A colour palette or theme, if you have one in mind
- Any flavour preferences, or dietary notes we should know about
- A rough budget range, so we can suggest designs that fit comfortably within it
If you don't have all of this ready, that's completely fine. Part of the consultation is helping you figure it out.
Sizing your cake to your guest list
Cake sizing depends on the number of guests, whether it's served as a standalone dessert or alongside other sweets, and how many tiers you want visually. Tell us your expected headcount and we'll recommend a size and tier structure that serves everyone comfortably without excess waste. If you're also serving other desserts at the event, let us know, since that can change how much cake you actually need.
Choosing flavours and fillings
We can walk you through our available cake flavours and fillings during your consultation so you can pick combinations that suit the occasion and your guests' tastes. If you're feeding a mixed crowd, a tiered cake with a different flavour on each tier is a popular way to please everyone without picking just one.
Design, then confirmation
Once we've talked through the occasion, size, and flavours, we'll put together a design direction with you. We'll confirm the final details, timeline, and pickup or delivery arrangements before your order is locked in, so there are no surprises closer to your event date.
Ready to start planning?
The best next step is simply to get in touch with your date and a few details about your celebration. We'll take it from there and guide you through the rest.
